About

I am Daniel WAFO FOSSO, a PhD student in Plant Biotechnology at the University of Douala, Cameroon. I hold a Master of Science in Plant Biotechnology from the same University, a MoBreed Intra-Africa Mobility project beneficiary funded by the European Union (2021–2022) in Nigeria which goal was to train and form plant breeders in Africa on underutilized crops. My Master's thesis was on finding affordable methods to help low-income farmers increase and stabilize their yields in Hibiscus sabdariffa’s cultivation in open field. In addition to my Master's degrees, I also held a Bachelor degree in Cell and Molecular Biology and did Professional Internships in QMS at the ALM CONSULTANTS among others on companies ISO 9001:2015 requirement for certification. I have also benefited from a Master's training in Laboratory Techniques Used in Plant Breeding from the Federal University of Vicosa, Brazil. I also did numerous trainings on novel lab tools in Plant Biotechnology, interdisciplinary with a critical thinking spirit. These qualifications and trainings have given me the right skills to begin my career in Plant breeding and production. I have full knowledge on management of rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) production research as well as it production companies such as IRAD and HEVECAM SA. I am passionate about using agriculture to improve human well-being by teaching them good practices for a resilient agriculture. I am fluent in English, French, Sango, and German (intermediate), as well as Igbo. I am also concerned about helping youth around the world and especially in Africa to have quality education. Therefore, I have been working as a volunteer in many international organizations occupying important positons. I have extensive travel experience within Africa and Europe in the framework of my positions. As Volunteer, I am a consultant in plant Breeding, Crop Production and Sustainable Agriculture for the Diaspora Academic Network for Africa (DIANARY), I provide courses and expertise whenever it is needed either in Cameroon where I am one of the focal points or in central Africa where I am one of the regional focal point. For more than two years now, I have been interacting with the European Commission in various countries, including their headquarters in Brussels. I have a lot of experience leading networks youth from different nationalities, which is why I am a member of the first executive board of the African Students and Alumni Forum (ASAF), funded by the EU (2022–2024), I provide feedbacks and recommendations on the management of the network, help as project selection committee and as leader of the Research and Survey task force. I was also their Ambassador in Nigeria in charge of promoting EU and AU funded opportunities. I am also member of research association in the world as FARA Africa which goal is coordinating and advocating for agriculture research for development of Africa, and INSOP which aims to supporting global efforts to prevent and manage soil pollution. For the past few years, I have been a co-course lecturer at the University of Douala in Plant Genetics.
